Our WebQuest "English as a Language in the World"

Introduce the task and motivate the students to form teams in order to solve or resolve a problem.

The English language is spoken as a first language in some parts of the world, it is spoken as an official second language in other parts of the world and in some parts of the world is it regarded as a foreign language which is being accepted in schools and institutions as a language to learn. In this webquest we will take the students on a journey around the globe to find those countries that have English as their native tongue or as their second official language or as a foreign language.

The questions that will need to be answered in this webquest are:

1. Which countries speak English as a native language L1?
2. Which countries speak English as an official second language L2?
3. Which countries speak English as a foreign language?
4. Are there countries that have English as the official language but the population preferentially speak another?
5. What are the population mixes for these languages in each country?
